SHAH ALAM – Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has told Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) supreme council member Anina Saadudin not to give up on the party’s struggle just because she was dropped from the women’s wing, Srikandi.
Dr Mahathir said he hinself went through a similar situation in the past.
“I myself have been kicked out of a party. But in the end I became prime minister,” he said referring to the time he was expelled from Umno following his criticisms of the government under Tunku Abdul Rahman.
“So don’t let it be that just because a little thing happened, we become so disappointed that we don’t want to continue the party’s struggle,” he told a press conference on Saturday after the launch of PPBM’s official anthem and website at Kompleks PKNS.
Late last month, Anina found herself removed as Srikandi head after PPBM information chief Datuk Kamarudin Md Nor said she had not been officially appointed to the post.
Anina later dismissed the party’s reasoning that her swearing-in ceremony as the head of Srikandi was a technical error, calling it an excuse.
PPBM president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said Anina’s removal from the position was simply a managerial decision.
“This is not a question of personal issues, it is a question of party management,” said Muhyiddin.
He said the party leadership found that she would not be able to make the targets set for the women’s wing.
“Therefore, the decision was made that she would not be the Srikandi chief.
“But she is still a supreme council member,” he said adding that he hoped Anina would remain with the party.
