KUALA LUMPUR – Umno’s Youth, Wanita and Puteri wings have proposed that the president and deputy president’s posts be uncontested in the next party polls.
This was raised during the policy speeches by the heads of the three wings.
“On this very Umno Youth platform, we want to propose that when we do win the general election, the positions of both the president and deputy president be uncontested.
“And that we give our fullest support to Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to continue to helm this party,” said Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin.
Puteri chief Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said that since Najib and Dr Ahmad Zahid make a good team, they should be allowed to continue leading the country and party.
“This is why this wing is proposing that the top two positions in Umno are not contested. They (Najib and Dr Ahmad Zahid) should be given the opportunity to continue to work together, hand-in-hand to strengthen not only the party but also our country,” said Mas Ermieyati.
Dr Ahmad Zahid, who is Umno vice-president, has been carrying out the duties of deputy president since Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was sacked by the party.
