KULAI – Confidence is not enough for MCA to win in the upcoming general election but hard work is able to get votes for the party, said deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
He advised MCA members to always double their effort as it would bring them victory and success, adding that the party must win back Gelang Patah.
Dr Wee, who is state MCA chief, thanked Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin for returning the Gelang Patah seat to MCA.
“This shows the relationship between MCA and Umno is strong. In Barisan Nasional, we are like one family, as we discuss matters first before making a decision.
“It does not matter who is our candidate for the seat as long as the person works hard, and together with other component parties, MCA wants to create a synergy in Gelang Patah for team Johor,” he added.
Dr Wee, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, said this after witnessing a signing ceremony between Gemilang Coachwork Sdn Bhd and Greenpower Motor Company Inc from the United States at Seelong here on Thursday.
“I have been briefed two or three times by the Gelang Patah MCA division and I am pleased with how they are preparing for the election.
“I will say that the Gelang Patah division is in the top 10 list of MCA divisions in the country and I want them to continue with their work,” he said.
Johor Barisan had agreed that a candidate from MCA would contest for the Gelang Patah seat in the 14th general election.
Mohamed Khaled said the seat had traditionally been contested by MCA and it was only appropriate that the party contest the seat in the upcoming polls.
In the 13th general election, the Gelang Patah seat was contested by then mentri besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman who lost to DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang.
