Organisers of the much anticipated debate between Mohd Nazri Abdul Aziz and Dr Mahathir Mohamad are unable to meet the latter’s demand for a new debate venue by tomorrow.
Speaking to reporters at Parliament today, Nazri said he had proposed that the debate be held at the organiser Sinar Harian’s office in Shah Alam on April 7 instead.
He added that Sinar Harian was in the midst of contacting the former premier on this proposal and informing the police.
Earlier today, the police had barred Sinar Harian from hosting the debate that was slated for 3pm this Saturday at Mara Science Junior College (MRSM), Kuala Kangsar over security concerns.
Following this, both Nazri and Mahathir had insisted that the debate must go on, with the latter demanding for a new venue to be named by noon tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Nazri had requested Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad, who is also the Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) information chief, to moderate the debate.
Nazri believed that Khalid would be able to moderate professionally, regardless of his political allegiances.
