PETALING JAYA ― Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders now expect around 30,000 people to attend its “Save Malaysia from Kleptocracy” rally on Saturday or about one-third the initial estimate.
Despite this, coalition vice-president Mohamad Sabu insisted the event would be successful, saying the lower figure was reasonable considering the venue could only fit around 40,000 people.
“The mobilisation effort was done at a scale fitting for Padang Timur,” he told reporters here, referring to the field where the rally is to be held.
“The field, if everyone is seated, can easily fit about 30,000 people… we didn’t mobilise like we would for, say, Dataran Merdeka,” he added.
Padang Timur is located across the Amcorp Mall here.
PH leaders at the start of the mobilisation effort predicted 100,000 people would turn up for the protest.
