BARISAN Nasional will be a better government than the PKR-led government in Selangor, Umno president Najib Razak said, urging Umno members to work hard to wrest back the country’s richest state.
Najib, who is also prime minister, said the reason he chose to officiate the Shah Alam Umno division meeting was because the struggle to win back Selangor must begin in the state capital.
“My intention is none other than sending a political message that Shah Alam is the capital of Selangor (and) if we want to bring changes to the Selangor political landscape, if we want BN to be in power again, leading Selangor, it must begin in Shah Alam,” he said when officiating the Shah Alam Umno division meeting today.
He said BN would prepare a special manifesto for Selangor, offering the folk there a better alternative.
Najib said the Pakatan-led government had reneged on its election promises, such as giving free education.
“But until today, there is no free education at Universiti Selangor (Unisel),” he said while announcing a RM3 million allocation for Selangor Umno.
He added that BN could not lose Selangor for the third time, after losing the state in the 2008 and 2013 elections.
He said Selangor Umno needed to have a winning mentality and do whatever necessary to recapture the state.
