BOUNCER CAUGHT RAPING CUSTOMER ON PARK BENCH NEAR PUB

A bouncer has been accused of raping a clubber and sexually assaulting another woman after claiming he would take her home, a court heard.

Samuel Garland allegedly raped a woman on a park bench in Exeter, only running off when a couple playing Pokemon Go walked past.

He is also alleged to have offered a young woman a lift home, before pulling over in a layby and sexually assaulting her, Exeter Crown Court heard.

Garland, 26, from Honiton, Devon, denies rape and assault by penetration, claiming both women gave their consent.

Richard Crabb, prosecuting, said police were already investigating the first complaint when the second woman made her allegation two weeks later, in July.

The court heard that the first woman had lost her friends and agreed to a lift home from Garland as there was another woman sitting in his front seat.

But Garland dropped her off and insisted on the young woman moving to the passenger seat, Mr Crabb said.

He said: ‘He started pulling at her dress and asking her about her bra and if he could kiss her. He asked ‘what do I get if I take you home’.

‘He drove up the motorway and stopped in a secluded area by Tiverton Parkway station. He made forceful sexual advances towards her in the car.

‘She told the police she tried to stop him and told him ‘I don’t know you’. He told her unless she took her dress off she would have to get out of the car and he would leave her there with no way of getting home.

‘In desperation, she did take her dress off. He pushed her seat back and climbed into the footwell. He pestered her to let him have sex but she said no.

‘He assaulted her with his fingers and she was too scared to fight back. He was very forceful and very rough.’

Mr Crabb said Garland met the second woman in the Vaults club in Exeter, where he was working as a doorman.

She told him she had missed her last train home and he offered to find her a hotel room, but they were not allowed into a Premier Inn.

Garland then took her to a bench and suggested they have sex, Mr Crabb said.

He added: ‘He started pulling at her clothing, despite her telling him to stop. He exposed himself but she was understandably reluctant.

‘He told her she was no good at it and told her to bend over the bench so he could have intercourse with her.

‘He said that either way, it was going to happen. By then she felt she could not fight back. She says she felt disabled.’

The alleged victim was found by a couple who were playing Pokemon Go as they walked home at 4am.
