THE fracas at the Nothing to Hide 2.0 forum earlier today was intended to hurt Pakatan Harapan chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad and sabotage the programme.
Bersatu Youth (Armada) chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said the incident seems pre-planned and objects thrown in Dr Mahathir’s direction show its malicious intent.
“Unfortunately there were elements of systematic sabotage, we feel, and we believe, it was intended to sabotage the programme and to hurt Dr Mahathir.
“Bottles, flares and shoes were thrown, not to the left or right, but at Dr Mahathir,” he told a press conference after the incident at the Selangor Youth and Culture Complex in Shah Alam this evening.
He said Dr Mahathir faced the people and answered all thrown at him without animosity, no matter how sensitive or controversial it might be, until the first flare was ignited then.
Syed Saddiq also said the youths who caused chaos at the forum earlier today were not from Armada, even though they were wearing its shirt.
“They wore our shirts, but as you can see, they’re not real. They’re counterfeit,” he told the press conference.
“I hope action is taken against these people. We have nothing to hide. If Dr Mahathir can stand for over an hour to speak the truth, we must follow suit. We cannot be intimidated by fear and violence,” the Armada chief said.
Pandemonium erupted at the forum when several youths ignited flares and threw chairs and slippers at the stage when Dr Mahathir was speaking.
Armada members had turned over three youths aged between 17 and 19 suspected to have caused the ruckus to Shah Alam police.
The forum was organised by Armada as a platform for Dr Mahathir and Prime Minister Najib Razak to debate on issues surrounding 1Malaysia Development Berhad.
