ALOR SETAR – Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah was left shocked and fuming after PAS’ Pokok Sena MP Datuk Mahfuz Omar, along with several disgruntled residents, “ambushed” him in the assembly hall and tried to force him to receive a memorandum.
The incident took place about 10.30am Monday after the assembly adjourned.
It is learnt that after the assembly adjourned, Mahfuz, several Opposition members and disgruntled residents from several areas had forced their way into the assembly hall to meet the Mentri Besar.
The residents from Kampung Tepi Laut, Kampung Tunku Laksamana are allegedly facing land title issues, while those from Bukit Pinang said they want to meet the state government over two projects.
In a statement, Ahmad Bashah said he was aware that the residents wanted to give him the memorandum.
“I instructed my officer to accept the memorandum on my behalf and I don’t think I did anything wrong. It’s normal practice by many state government.
“But Mahfuz’s action by ambushing me in the state assembly hall was shocking and rude.
“He is aware that he can always meet me, because I am open to meeting people.
“What was his motive for doing such a thing? Is he trying to gain popularity?” Ahmad Bashah said.
