AZIZAH PUTS PAS TO SHAME: PKR TO QUIT ALL KELANTAN GOVT POSTS, DECISION ON S’GOR WHEN AZMIN RETURNS FROM OVERSEAS

PETALING JAYA – PKR has ordered all its political appointees in the Kelantan government to step down immediately.

PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said this follows PAS’ decision to cut ties with the party last week.

“PKR’s political bureau tonight discussed several matters related to the PAS syura council’s move to end political cooperation with us.

“Among the decisions we’ve reached is to have all our political appointees in Kelantan step down.

“This message has been sent to the chairman of Kelantan’s (PKR) leadership council.”

Wan Azizah was speaking to reporters outside the party’s headquarters here this evening, where the PKR political bureau had convened for almost three hours.

Last Thursday, PAS officially ended all links or cooperation with PKR, with its syura council deciding that the move was necessary to defend the party’s Islamic agenda.

The council accused PKR of violating the terms of its conditional cooperation with PAS, failing to support the Islamist party in its Islamic agenda, and working against it in the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by-elections last year.

Wan Azizah, however, rejected PAS’ reasons, saying her party had tried to protect its relationship with PAS.

On the calls to have PAS’ representatives removed from the PKR-led Selangor government, Wan Azizah said this would only be decided after Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali returns from his work trip abroad.

“PAS’ position in the Selangor government was discussed tonight. But it will be decided jointly with the menteri besar,” she said.

There are currently three PAS exco members in the state’s administration.

They are Iskandar Abdul Samad, who is the housing, building management and urban settlement executive councillor; Zaidy Abdul Talib (state infrastructure, public amenities and agro-based industry); and Yunus Hairi (Islamic Affairs).
