PUTRAJAYA – The government should have informed Pakatan Harapan (PH) of any problems dragging its registration so it could be resolved earlier on, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad urged today.
The Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman had attempted to see Home Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi earlier today, but was directed to secretary-general Datuk Seri Alwi Ibrahim instead.
“We were told that why PH has not been registered with the Registrar of Societies is due to the internal issues with PPBM and DAP,
“Had they informed us earlier we would have done our part to resolve it, since we need sufficient time [as a registered entity] to prepare for the upcoming general elections,” he said outside the ministry’s main gate here.
Last week, Registrar of Societies (RoS) had labelled PPBM’s extraordinary general meeting, held November 2, 2016, as invalid, highlighting the fact that only 12 of its supreme council members turned up for said meeting.
Meanwhile, DAP had earlier this month had to re-elect its central executive committee for the third time after the RoS declared its initial election in 2012 and a subsequent re-election both invalid.
PH had submitted its application to RoS several months ago and was told to alter their logo before the application was accepted. There has been no word of the application since.
Arriving at 10.47am today, Dr Mahathir was accompanied by PPBM president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as he entered the Home Ministry complex.
Shortly after 11.30am the trio emerged, and were joined by Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu and DAP’s Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai.
Dr Mahathir said they were told Zahid was unavailable as he had an appointment with the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Dr Mahathir said it was not their intention to have raised any troubles to begin with.
“Whatever is required of us by the government and provided said requirements are not against the law, we will comply with,” he said.
