Angela Merkel is seeking her fourth term as the Chancellor of Germany and is still the favourite to win the September 24 election. In the eastern town of Quedlinburg on Saturday, she tried to engage the voters but unfortunately the people just couldn’t forget the type of damage Merkel has brought to the nation.
Her campaign speech was greeted with deafening jeers and whistles, making it impossible for Merkel to continue delivering her message. Obviously, the crowds were still furious over her refugee policies that have seen more than 1-million refugees entered the country since late 2015. Chants of “Liar, Liar” and “Get Lost, Merkel” continued for the entire 30-minute of her speech.
As her speech comes to its end, a glum-looking Merkel said to a crowd of between 1,500 to 3,000 people of Germany – “I hope you were able to understand some of that even though some of you out there kept on yelling. Some believe the problems in Germany can be fixed by screaming – but I don’t think so and the majority of the people here don’t think so either.”
Refused to look weak in front of the angry people, the defiant Merkel said – “Some people can’t do anything else but scream and shout – but we’re not going to let them lead us astray.” However, the protestors were equally stubborn and flashed banners and cards which read “Go to the Muslims”, “Merkel, Just Go”, “Protect the Constitution from Merkel” and “Islam does not belong in Germany.”
This is Chancellor Merkel’s second campaign appearance in eastern Germany but both campaigns were tainted with anti-Merkel sentiment. She faced jeers and shouts of “Traitor” while speaking in Annaberg-Buchholz last week during her first campaign. If the election of French President Emmanuel Macron is any indicator, right-winger AfD (Alternative for Germany) party will not be able to unseat Merkel.
Still, pollsters say the AfD could win at least 10% in the September election. Perhaps this could explain the returns of Merkel’s arrogance. Her conservative Christian Democrats are far ahead of the centre-left Social Democrats (SPD) in latest opinion polls. Therefore, the defiant chancellor told the anti-refugee hecklers that under her leadership, Berlin still welcomes asylum-seekers.
However, an election in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania last year saw the anti-immigrant and anti-Islam Alternative fuer Deutschland (AfD) party took a surprisingly 21.9% of the votes, behind the centre-left Social Democrats (SPD) party which won around 30.5%. Merkel’s own CDU (Christian Democratic) party came third with about 19% of the votes – – its worst ever result in the state.
Thanks to Merkel, the 3-year-old nationalist AfD party was sent to the Berlin state parliament for the first time. And thanks to Merkel too, the AfD now represents 10 of Germany’s 16 regional parliaments. After the shocking defeats, Merkel, with tail between legs, said – “If I could, I would turn back time for many, many years, to prepare better.”
In July 2016 alone, the country was hit with 5 violent attacks which saw 10 people killed and dozens more injured in separate gun, bomb, axe, machete attacks. Despite the attacks in Ansbach, Wurzburg and Munich, Merkel had remained cocky and insisted Germany would not turn its back on people fleeing the Middle East.
That was after Merkel happily welcomed 1.2 million Muslim refugees into Germany in 2015, only to be repaid with mass sexual assaults / rapes by 1,000 Muslim migrants/refugees in Cologne, Germany, during 2016 New Year’s Eve. Under her administration, the police and Cologne Mayor Henriette Reker were under instruction to cover-up the “Rapefugees” crisis.
In short, Angela Merkel was both ignorant and arrogant until her party lost two state elections. Then she pretended to be regretful. But make not mistake about it. She still believed in multiculturalism despite the fact that her extraordinary religious tolerance fails to convince the Muslims to integrate and assimilate with others in Germany.
Earlier this year, Merkel set aside at least €90 million (US$95.7 million; £76.7 million; RM425 million) of taxpayers money to pay for her own mistakes. She apparently offered the money to migrants willing to withdraw their asylum applications and leave Germany voluntarily. Yes, Merkel’s genius plan was actually welcomes them, feeds them, house them and then pays them to leave.
Now that polls say she remains the overwhelming favourite to win next month’s German federal elections to the Bundestag, Angela Merkel has openly shown her real arrogance once again. Although Germany rejected 170,000 asylum claims in 2016, only 26,000 were repatriated while 55,000 more decided to leave voluntarily. That leaves 81,000 applicants “missing or unaccounted for” – a serious security breach.
