SANDAKAN – A 19-year-old man died of suicide after he cut his neck and body with a 30-centimeters saw, believed to be caused by family pressure at Taman Nuri, mile 7 here, Wednesday.
The victim was found by his father at around 12.30am at the kitchen area of his home, covered with blood on June 6, 2018.
According to Sandakan district Police Chief, ACP Mohd Azhar Hamin, victim’s parents told that the victim showed symptoms of depression three days ago after they disallow him to join Jemaah Tabligh activity.
It was learnt that the victim was an active Jemaah Tabligh member here.
“We also take into account another possibility which had driven the victim to self-kill. The victim was sent to the Sandakan airport to go to Kuala Lumpur to work a day before (Tuesday) by his parents, but he refused to go (to Kuala Lumpur) and went home.
“However, after the victim returned home, he did not show any emotion but he did not want to talk to anyone, until he was then found covered with blood with his left hand still holding a saw on his chest,” Azhar said.
Azhar also said that there was no evidence of struggle on the deceased’s body. The deceased was sent to the Forensic Unit of Hospital Duchess of Kent Hospital for post mortem.
The case was classified as sudden death.
